Individual Technology

  • Use of one interface per student (computers, iPads, etc.), be it through school technology or personal technology
  • Using the pre-existing skills of students to facilitate their own learning (Howell 2018)
  • Allowing more self-direction in learning
    • Ex. finding one's own photo editing technique online to complete an assignment uniquely, in my own experience
  • Easing integration of social skills with learning
    • Technology is seen by youth as an interpersonal venture, which lends itself to class discussions/peer-to-peer assistance
    • Allows students who find it difficult to access traditional schooling (lack of interest, attentional or behavioural disorders, etc.) a more amenable point of entry into the subject matter
  • Greater range of content/programs available
